New Construction HVAC

New construction HVAC design and installation across the Springfield area. Manual J sizing, custom ductwork, and complete AC and heating installs for new homes.

Getting HVAC Right From the Start

New construction HVAC is your one clean shot at a comfortable home. The system is one of the most expensive and most impactful components of any new build, and it’s far easier to get right before the walls close up than to fix afterward. Plan it well, and you’ll have efficient, quiet climate control for 15 to 20 years. Get it wrong, with oversized equipment, undersized ducts, or poor airflow design, and you’ll spend years fighting hot spots, cold spots, humidity problems, and energy bills that don’t match the home’s rating.

Summit Air & Heating has been designing and installing HVAC systems in new homes since 1985. We’ve worked with builders and homeowners through every phase of construction across Springfield, Riverton, and the surrounding communities. A new home is a chance to do everything right the first time, and that’s exactly how we approach it.

What New Construction HVAC Includes

System sizing: every new home project starts with a thorough evaluation of the home’s square footage, insulation R-values, window specifications, orientation, ceiling heights, and local climate conditions. We follow ACCA Manual J protocols for load calculations, because getting the capacity right is the foundation that everything else is built on.

Duct design. We size every duct run to deliver balanced airflow to every room while keeping duct runs as short and direct as possible. Our in-house sheet metal shop fabricates custom ductwork to match the design, with no compromises forced by stock sizes.

Equipment selection: based on our evaluation, we recommend equipment that’s properly sized for the home. We’re certified on all major brands, and we’ll walk you through efficiency tiers, features, and pricing so you can make an informed choice.

Our factory-trained technicians handle every phase of the installation: setting the air handler or furnace, placing the outdoor condenser, running refrigerant lines, installing ductwork, wiring the thermostat, and connecting the condensate drainage. We coordinate with the builder and other trades to stay on schedule.

Commissioning: after installation, we test the entire system: verify refrigerant charge, measure airflow at every register, check static pressure, test all modes of operation, and calibrate the thermostat. The system doesn’t get handed off until it performs to specification.

Common Mistakes We Prevent

Years of experience have shown us where new construction HVAC goes wrong:

  • Oversized equipment. Builders sometimes default to larger systems “just in case.” An oversized AC or heat pump short-cycles, fails to dehumidify properly, and wears out faster. In a humid climate, proper sizing is critical for moisture control.
  • Undersized returns: insufficient return air is one of the most common problems in new construction. Rooms with closed doors and no return path build positive pressure, forcing conditioned air out through gaps and reducing system efficiency.
  • Ductwork shortcuts, flex duct is cheaper and faster to install, but it creates more airflow resistance than hard duct. We use hard duct for main trunk lines and limit flex runs to short branch connections where they’re appropriate.
  • Poor equipment placement can cause problems. Where the air handler and condenser sit affects noise, accessibility for maintenance, and duct run efficiency. We work with builders during the design phase to optimize placement.

Building for a Hot, Humid Climate

Our climate creates specific HVAC design challenges that don’t exist in other parts of the country:

  • Humidity control: proper equipment sizing and airflow design are the first line of defense against indoor humidity. We can also spec whole-home dehumidifiers into the design for homes that need the highest level of moisture control.
  • Attic conditions. Most homes around here have attic-mounted ductwork that bakes in summer heat. We insulate duct runs to minimize heat gain and can recommend sealed attic strategies when the building design allows it.
  • Ventilation requirements: modern tight-construction homes need controlled ventilation to maintain indoor air quality without relying on random air leakage. ASHRAE sets the ventilation standards we follow when designing fresh air systems for new homes.

New Construction HVAC Across the Springfield Area

We design and install HVAC for new homes throughout the area. Building in one of these communities? Here’s the local page for your project:

  • Riverton: one of the area’s fastest-growing communities, with new subdivisions going up every year
  • Lakeside: new residential development near the water
  • Springfield: custom homes and new builds in our home town
  • Cedar Grove: new homes along the highway growth corridor
  • Maplewood: established neighborhoods with infill construction

Frequently Asked Questions

When should the HVAC contractor get involved in a new build?
As early as possible, ideally during the design phase before framing starts. This allows us to plan the duct layout, equipment location, and return air paths before walls go up. Making changes after framing is more expensive and often results in compromises.
Do you work with builders and general contractors?
Yes. We work with builders, GCs, and homeowners across the area. We coordinate our work with other trades to stay on the construction schedule and pass all required inspections.
What size system does my new home need?
We evaluate your home's square footage, insulation values, window types and orientation, ceiling heights, and our local climate conditions. We don't guess based on square footage alone. Proper sizing prevents comfort problems and efficiency waste.
Can I choose my own equipment brand?
Absolutely. We're certified on all major brands and we install them all. We'll help you choose equipment that fits your budget and performance expectations, with the tradeoffs laid out clearly.
Do you handle the ductwork too?
Yes. We design and fabricate ductwork in-house using our own sheet metal shop. This gives us complete control over quality and ensures the duct system is properly sized and sealed from the start.
